The work

What on-site spraying actually means

On-site spraying is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of removing panels, frames or steelwork and sending them away to be recoated, we bring the spray equipment to the building and coat it in place.

That matters for two reasons. Removal and refitting is usually the most expensive part of a refurbishment, and it is the part that shuts a building down. Spraying in place removes both. The fabric stays where it is, the building keeps trading, and the cost sits in a planned maintenance budget rather than a capital one.

The method is the same whatever the surface: contain and mask the area, degrease and abrade the existing coating, treat any corrosion, then apply a two-pack commercial system by spray. What changes between jobs is the preparation, the coating specification and the access — which is what the survey is for.

Surfaces

What we spray on site

Most enquiries fall into one of these. Each has its own page with the detail.

Cladding

Profiled, composite and flat panel cladding recoated on the building.

Curtain walling

Aluminium framing and spandrel panels, resprayed without removing glazing.

Warehouses and distribution units

Large elevations and roof sheets, worked around the operation.

Factories and industrial units

External envelope and structural steelwork.

Shop fronts and retail frontages

Rebrands and refurbishments, worked around trading hours.

Roofs

Roof sheet recoating and protective systems.

Two related treatments often come up on the same survey: cut-edge corrosion treatment where roof sheet edges have started to rust, and shot blasting where a surface needs taking back before anything goes on it. We also carry out on-site powder coating repairs.

Buildings in use

How we work around a building that stays open

Disruption is the objection we hear first, and it is a fair one. Working on buildings that stay open is what this company is built around.

We run night shifts, weekend work and phased closures, so an elevation, a floor or an entrance is out of use for hours rather than weeks. Work zones are contained and sheeted, the coatings are low-odour, and access, permits and notices are agreed with your facilities team before anyone arrives.

Where a programme has to be short, we put more people on it rather than stretching the dates.

Night and weekend shifts

Entrances, lifts and car parks stay usable in the working day.

Phased by area

One face, floor or unit at a time. The rest carries on as normal.

Access sorted by us

MEWPs and towers, IPAF and PASMA-trained, permits arranged in advance.

Specification

Preparation is most of the job

A spray finish is only as good as what is underneath it. On a survey we are looking at the condition of the existing coating, whether it is sound enough to overcoat, where corrosion has started, and how the surface will be reached safely.

From that we specify the system — degreasing, abrading, corrosion treatment, primer where it is needed, and a two-pack topcoat chosen for the substrate and the exposure. We spray out samples on site for sign-off before the main work starts, so the colour is agreed on the actual building rather than off a chart.

Any RAL, BS or NCS reference, including brand and planning-condition colours. The finished system carries a guarantee of up to 20 years, confirmed in writing with the quote.

Compliance

Accreditations, RAMS and insurance

Everything your procurement team asks for, in writing, before we get on site.

USP Coatings is CHAS accredited and every operative holds a valid CSCS card. We carry £10 million public liability insurance and send the certificate with the quote. Full risk assessments and method statements — RAMS — are issued for approval before any work begins, on every project, without being asked.

Cost

What on-site spraying costs

Every building is different, so the figure comes from the survey. These are the ranges our commercial projects sit inside.

Cladding re-coating£15,000 – £80,000
Commercial building painting£10,000 – £50,000
On-site colour change£10,000 – £40,000

What moves the number: the area being coated, the condition of what is already on there, corrosion treatment, access at height, and whether the work has to happen out of hours. The survey is free and the quote that follows is fixed price.

FAQs

On-site spraying FAQs

Do you work on buildings that are still occupied?

Yes — that is the speciality. Low-odour coatings, contained work zones, and night or weekend shifts where the building cannot lose daytime access.

Does anything have to be removed or taken away?

No. On-site spraying is done in place. Nothing is dismantled and nothing goes back to a workshop, which is where most of the cost and most of the downtime normally sits.

Which surfaces can you spray?

Profiled and composite metal cladding, powder-coated aluminium framing and curtain walling, spandrel panels, structural steel, fibre cement board, render and concrete.

Can you match a specific colour?

Yes — any RAL, BS or NCS reference, including brand and planning-condition colours. We spray out samples on site for approval before starting.

What guarantee do you offer?

A coating guarantee of up to 20 years, confirmed in writing with the quote.

Do you provide method statements and RAMS?

Always. RAMS are issued for approval before any work begins, on every project.

Where we work

We are a national contractor and we go to the building. On-site spraying teams work across England, Scotland and Wales, from a single unit to a multi-site estate rollout. Head office is in Bradford. Send us the postcode and we will confirm survey availability.
