Factory Spraying
On-site spraying for working factories — exteriors, interiors, structural steel and machinery recoated around live production, in phased bays and planned shutdown windows. UK-wide.
Free site survey and written report. No obligation.
The work in practice
Factories we work in
Live production halls and industrial exteriors, coated around the operation.

The work
Spraying a factory that cannot stop making things
A factory is not an empty shell. There is a production line running through it, machinery that cannot be moved, product at every stage, and output targets that do not pause for painters. That is the constraint this service is built around, and it is what separates factory spraying from recoating an ordinary industrial unit.
The work itself is on-site spraying: instead of replacing weathered cladding or stripping out tired internals, we prepare and respray them where they stand. That covers the outside of the building, the inside, the structural steel, and the machinery itself — a repair, a full refurbishment or a complete rebrand, depending on what the survey finds.
If your building is storage and distribution rather than production — HGV movements, loading bays, racking — the constraints are different and it has its own page: warehouse spraying.
Scope
What we spray in a factory
A survey usually covers some combination of these.
External cladding and envelope
Profiled and composite panel elevations, cleaned, treated and resprayed in place.
Structural steelwork
Columns, beams, frames and canopies, inside and out.
Internal walls, ceilings and soffits
Production halls brought back to a clean, bright, uniform finish.
Machinery and plant
Refurbished by spray rather than replaced, where the survey confirms the substrate is sound.
Treated and sealed at roof sheet edges before anything is coated over it.
Where steel or plant needs taking right back before a coating goes on.
Not sure whether it can be done without stopping production?
Send us photographs and your shift pattern, or book the free survey and we will tell you either way.
Live production
How we work around a running production line
The first thing we plan on a factory job is not the coating — it is the production schedule. The survey establishes what can be coated while the line runs, what needs a bay cleared, and what has to wait for a shutdown.
Work is phased bay by bay, so one area is masked, contained and sprayed while the rest of the floor carries on. Machinery, control panels, product and line equipment inside the work zone are sheeted and masked before a gun is picked up. Where an area cannot come out of production during the day, we take it at night, at the weekend, or inside your planned maintenance shutdown — which is often the cheapest window of all, because the line is already down.
The coatings are low-odour, and where the programme has to be short we put more people on it rather than stretching the dates.
Phased bay by bay
One bay masked and sprayed at a time. The rest of the floor keeps producing.
Shutdown windows
Nights, weekends, and planned maintenance shutdowns — agreed with your production manager first.
Masking and containment
Machinery, lines, panels and product sheeted and protected before any spraying starts.
Specification
Preparation is most of the job
A sprayed finish is only as good as the surface underneath it, and in a factory that surface has usually earned its wear — impact damage low down, corrosion at the sheet edges, contamination near process areas. The survey establishes what is sound enough to overcoat and what needs more.
From that we specify the system: degreasing and cleaning down, repairing damaged areas, abrading, treating corrosion, primer where it is needed, and a two-pack industrial topcoat chosen for the substrate and the environment it has to survive in. Where steel or plant needs taking back to bare metal, shot blasting is carried out on site.
Colours are matched to any BS or RAL reference, including brand and bespoke colours, and sprayed out on site for sign-off before the main work starts. The finished system carries a coating guarantee of up to 20 years, confirmed in writing with the quote.
Compliance
Accreditations, RAMS and insurance
Everything your procurement team asks for, in writing, before we get on site.
USP Coatings is CHAS accredited and every operative holds a valid CSCS card. We carry £10 million public liability insurance and send the certificate with the quote. Full risk assessments and method statements — RAMS — are issued for approval before any work begins, on every project, without being asked.

What factory spraying costs
The area being coated and the working windows drive the figure, so it comes from the survey. These are the ranges our industrial projects sit inside.
What moves the number: the area inside and out, the condition of what is on there now, corrosion treatment, access at height, and how much of the work has to happen out of hours or inside shutdown windows. Spraying in place is consistently cheaper than replacement, because nothing is stripped out and refitted. The survey is free and the quote that follows is fixed price.
FAQs
Factory spraying FAQs
Can you spray while production is running?
Yes — that is what the service is planned around. Work is phased bay by bay, the work zone is masked and contained, the coatings are low-odour, and anything that cannot come out of production by day is taken at night, at the weekend or during a planned shutdown.
Do you spray factory interiors as well as the outside?
Yes. The same visit can cover the external envelope and the production halls inside — walls, ceilings, soffits and structural steel — so the building is done once, not twice.
Can machinery and plant be resprayed rather than replaced?
Often, yes. Where the survey confirms the substrate is sound, machinery is prepared and resprayed on site, which costs a fraction of replacement. Where it is not being coated, it is masked and sheeted before any spraying starts nearby.
How do you protect the production line and stock?
Everything inside the work zone — machinery, control panels, product and line equipment — is sheeted and masked before work begins, and the zone itself is contained. What needs protecting, and when each bay is taken, is agreed with your production manager before anyone arrives.
Can you match our brand colours?
Yes — any BS or RAL reference, including brand and bespoke colours. We spray out samples on site for approval before the main work starts.
What guarantee do you offer?
A coating guarantee of up to 20 years, confirmed in writing with the quote. RAMS are issued for approval before any work begins, on every project.
Where we work
We are a national contractor and we go to the factory. On-site factory spraying teams work across England, Scotland and Wales, from a single unit to a multi-site manufacturing estate. Head office is in Bradford. Send us the postcode and we will confirm survey availability.
